Adaptation of The Guide
Novel “The Guide” was published in 1958, were was film
got adapted and release in 1968. Thought, film and novel, both are the same in
entertainment, still here different styles and many roles in their
distinguished manner.
In real society, technology has improved to make
movies fun and exciting, but without books, some of this would not be related
Books leave the room your imagination, our focus on
the book imaging, the character, action, and setting allowing us to develop our
vision of it. On the other hand, films give the authentic effect on the
audience, and it makes the audience emotional, in a novel, the writer can add
many characters but, while the filmmaker needs to look upon the budget, so they
compress same elements just to look rightful to the main story.
Story
R K Narayan's fiction depicts the ordinary men's so each
for selfhood and the struggle the has to encounter on his way to say
realization, “Narayans belong to south India, the imaginary south Indian town
named as Malgudi, is the common setting for his most of the novel. The film has
a flashback and it begins like Raju release from the jail. Raju takes shelter
in a deserted temple of the village named as malgudi. The story has been
narrated by Raju himself. the villager assumes him as a saint. Raju enjoys this saintliness upon
him by the villagers. He enjoys different types of foods and exclusive
treatment given by the villagers considering him as saint. Here, he start his
story of life as a guide and goes back to nostalgia. While giving a flashback
effect film visualizes the Raju's romantic story. Here if hou watch movies it
seems Raju a gentleman but in novel Narayan has depicted Raju as a flirting
guy. So here we get to see the difference in film and novel , that how a film
maler has to take care about the Hero's image infront to audience, because it
is denying the fact that a hero can not be a filtering guy or a seducer, at
least not during the 1960's Hindi cinema.
while portraying Raju's life when he used to live with
his mother and known as“tourist guide” by the people. The progression brough
him in contact with Marco and his beautiful wife Rosi . Marco was interested
in archeology and Rosie was interested
in dance. But Morco doesn't like her aspirations of dance and he all the time
keeps himself busy with his research and leaves Rosi alone in hotel. Here, her
absurdity comes over with Raju to whom she wanders all over the village and
starts her getting blooms and glimpses in her life. Slowly and gradually Rosi
and Raju fall in love with eachother .The fact is revealed to Marco. He becomes apocalyptic over this
news. Rosi pleades and apologies for her blunder. Then Rosie comes to Raju's
hone but his beloved mother dislikes Rosie being a dancer and the relationship of Raju with her. But the story proceeds and Rosi becomes a
famous dancer and gets huggt position in art. While Raju becomes the managing
director of Rosie, Rosie belongs the bare, Rosie’s devotion, continuation, and
passion brought a great success but the happiness does not lastlong, Raju
conducts a mistake He does the signature
of Rosie in order to receive valuable jewelry,
which lying in the bank. Raju finally sent to jail. Here at the end,
Raju's current story as a saint. He eventually had to give upon his life in due
of villagers demand, who compel Raju to keep fast inorder to convince God to
shower rain in the Village. Rosi and his mother also come to meet Raju when
they get know about him living in a village. But at the end Raju dies , his
mother and Rosi seem crying. So when the story approaches to its end , It
starts rain in the village and villagers start enjoying.
Here are the some keys dealing with the Difference
between film and the novel-
- Ten-year difference
- Superstitious beliefs ling on the village.
- In the novel his mother covering out kichen but in the film there is a room, because a fim maker has to look upon budget.
- A movie gives cathartic effect on the audience , on the other hand a novel give effect on reader.
- In the novel it is written that Raju as a student of Albert Mission school, whereas in the film there is not anything about school and children. It may be because of the budget issues thg every film maker has to look upon.
The most important difference between a film and a
novel is that , auther can add plothar of characters in his work, but a film
maker can not do so.
